Our Story

In 1977, our company’s founder, a gentleman farmer named Paul, returned to his hometown of Hamburg, Illinois to pursue his quest for the perfect popcorn. When he finally identified the kernel that met his satisfaction, he sowed his 200-acre farm and White Cat Corn was born.

Over the years, we have received accolades from food editors at The Chicago Tribune and The Washington Post.

It’s rumored even Chuck Williams, the founder of Williams Sonoma, gave us an honorable mention in an interview with Gourmet Magazine. However, the most important reviews come from our customers. “White Cat Corn is the biggest, fluffiest, tastiest popcorn I have ever had!” says one.

Our little company has grown a bit over the years, but one thing has and never will change – the simple, wholesome goodness of White Cat Corn.

The Tale of the White Cat

So why is it White Cat Corn? Why not Brown Dog or Green Frog?

When our founder, Paul, returned to Hamburg, he was not alone. He was accompanied by his near-deaf cat, Chelsea Williams. Chelsea wasn’t an indoor cat. She was more of a barn cat and enjoyed roaming the farm every day. Not much of a mouser due to her auditory impairment, she still had a lot of heart. Every day, she proudly brought Paul a corn cob to the front porch as proof of another successful hunt. While it didn’t actually show she was a prolific predator, it did solidify her place in our history and on our label.
